Planning your garage gym doesn’t need to break your budget.
You’ll be happy to find out that you don’t have to spend a fortune on fancy home fitness equipment or machines to get a great workout from home. Actuallyyou can have all the equipment you need without spending much.Think back to the Rocky movies when he was training in Russia It doesn’t take much to set up a garage gym and get a great workout.
Below is a simple list of exercise equipment you will need to get started with your own garage gym.
Take not for those looking for the more traditional home guy equipment list, this is not for you. That means you won’t find any big expensive pieces of equipment.
What You Need To Setup A Home Gym
To get started you truly only need a few things. With these 3 items you have enough to get a killer full body workout in.
Just these first 3 items on the list will have enough to for you do a workout to build muscle and strength and flatten your stomach.
First – Bars
The barbell is the 1st piece of essential equipment you’re going to need to get. Muscle building focuses on barbell workouts.
That’s because they’re so effective.
A quality Olympic bar is the way to go. It going to dispense a couple of dollars to get a quality barbell, but it will be well worth it. You never run into any problems with it bending or warping. And is made to dropped with bumper plates.
There isn’t any need to go by a competition bar, you’ll be served well with training bar.
Two – Plates
Your bar is going to need some weight, so this is the next step. Bumper plates is the best choice. For those unfamiliar with bumper plates, there are big rubber plates made to be dropped. You want these because they are safe to drop and throw around.
I can’t say how much weight you’ll need but I can give you recommendations as to where to start. The most weight you will need will be on the squat or deadlift so this is what your needs will be based on.
Metal plates are cheaper saw some of the bumper plates will be substituted for metal.
Rubber Plates
4 x 45lbs or 20kg
4 x 25lbs or 10kg
Traditional Metal Plates
4 – 10 pounds metal plates
2 – 2.5 pounds metal plates
2 – 1.25 pounds metal plates
35lbs plates are a waste of money so don’t bother getting any.
3. Floor Covering
To finish off the list of must have garage gym equipment is the floor. This doesn’t have to be fancy. What I have found to be the best bang for the buck is, horse stall mats and a sheet of plywood. These mats a practically indestructible, protecting your floor from anything that should fall on it. Plus they are great at absorbing sound.
Turn up the music, eats some muscle building foods plus the equipment from the list above and you have your self a quality home gym where you can really build lean muscle mass.
You now have yourself a home gym. The 3 items listed, is plenty to get you started with. This set up can last you for some time, but there are a few more items that you may want to add down the road.
Feel free to add in some bodyweight exercises
