One of the hardest things you will do is learning to understand why you overeat. No one accidently overeats. It is usually the result of something going on in our lives that causes to eat far beyond being full or when we are not hungry. Are you eating because you are tired, bored, angry or lonely? There are ways of dealing with these issues that do not involve food and you will have to learn to use them.
