Free solar panels from the government

It’s not often you get the offer of something free from the Government! In the UK, whilst it isn’t possible to get free solar panels from the government, you can get the next best thing which is solar panels installed free that generate revenue for you as well as reducing your own electricity bills. This is made possible by the renewable heat incentive program which actively fosters, using financial incentives, the installation of solar pv panels on many properties in the UK. The Renewable Heat Incentive is in effect an inflated, above market price paid for electricity that is generated using solar power. People who install solar pv panelscan sell the electricity generated by them to the government at a substantial premium to the normal per kwh cost – even if they then use that electrical power themselves.

The driver behind this free solar energy campaing is the stated aim of reducing the UK’s carbon emissions. In order to make significant inroads into the UK’s CO2 production, the government recognises that much needs to be done and what better solution than incentivising home owners to do their bit which, whilst not significant individually, can collectively up.

For many UK residents this makes the prospect of free solar panels a reality. For example, many keen energy businesses are now promoting the installation of free solar pv panels via schemes which mean that the home owner has to pay nothing at all to benefit from free electricity from the sun.

There are many questions raised about such a program. For example, can modern PV panels generate much power in the UK

where sunshine levels are significantly below those of countries in the tropics? Does the amount of electricity generated actually mean that consumers will make significant savings on their fuel bills?

The latest PV solar panels are pretty efficient and so it is quite practical to expect and experience several kilowatts of clean electrical power if you install solar pv panels.
