Stretch marks and scars are the remainder of wounds that have previously formed and healed on the body. Wounds that form scars are quite understandable as these caused irregular breaks in the skin. When the skin heals, some collagen becomes deposited in the wound to fill in the hole previously present which results in the formation of a scar.
Scars formed beneath the skin such as stretch marks are harder to understand. This is because no visible wound is seen on the surface of the skin, but scars are still able to form. Such scars form due to the excessive stretching of the skin, which results in the tearing of its dermal layer. It is visible on the surface as the upper layer of the skin has also become thin enough to see the underlying layer.
When this layer heals, it also forms scars similar to wounds that were formed above the skin. But because of the decreased thickness of the skin above this area, the scars can also be seen on the surface. Such formation of scars is what we refer to as stretch marks.
Due to the many advances in technology, there have been many ways developed in getting rid of these marks. On way is through the use of scar removal creams which work by increasing cell regeneration. In addition to this, they also have some exfoliating effects to help get rid of the old cells and collagen deposited on the scar.
Still, some people depend on home remedies to get rid of such scars. One of the most popular home remedies used is cocoa butter. This helps moisturize the skin and may help in stimulating formation of healthier skin cells. Application of various vitamins and antioxidants are also good ways of promoting good skin health and the elimination of damaging free radicals.
These are the cheaper and simpler methods but at the same time, they are not effective at completely getting rid of a scar. If you want more effective ways of scar elimination, one method that you can try is microdermabrasion. This involves physically or chemically sanding away the upper layer of the skin along with the scar so that it is completely removed. It will take some time for the skin to regenerate and replace the lost layer, but your new skin will look as good as new.
Another way is through laser treatments, which work similarly to microdermabrasion. But instead of sloughing off the scar, it burns away the scar so that all that will be left is your normal skin. The normal regeneration of cells will then fill up the space left by the scar and your skin will be back to the way it was before.
There is really no cheap way to get rid of scars and stretch marks if you want them to be completely removed from your skin. Creams and other home remedies will only work to lessen their appearance so that they become almost invisible. This might be enough for some people, but for those who really want to eliminate scars completely, you will have to spend some cash in getting them taken out permanently.
