Remarkable Hawaii – A Delightful Destination

Ahhh The Hawaiian Islands are one of the greatest tourist destinations in the United States. For good reason too! This set of islands provides beauty beyond compare and doesn’t need a passport for American vacationers. It’s the 50th of the fifty states, but the culture here is so different it feels like you’re in a whole different place.

You can find eight main island destinations to experience in Hawaii’s archipelago: The Big Island (Hawaii), The Valley Isle (Maui), The Target Isle (Kahoolawe), The Pineapple Isle (Lanai), The Friendly Isle (Molokai), The Gathering Place (Oahu), The Garden Isle (Kauai) and The Forbidden Isle (Niihau).

The traditional Hawaiian language is of a Polynesian origin, nevertheless English is prominently spoken here too. Each are official languages. Usage of the Polynesian form has gradually decreased through the years but schools are beginning to support the use to help retain the Hawaiian heritage. Many are pre-schools hoping to instill this traditional knowledge into the future of the state so it won’t be lost forever.

On the Big Island is found the world’s tallest mountain, Mauna Kea. Though it is recognized worldwide as being just 13,796 feet, the true elevation as calculated from it’s base about 20,000 feet below sea level, is considerably different. Indeed, at an overall 33,500 feet it is higher than Mt. Everest. Impressive!

Hawaiian weather is enjoyed year-round with the lowest temperatures approaching only 60 degrees. Trade winds do blow through the islands producing a significantly lower humidity when compared with other tropical locations. The islands also have basically two distinctive seasons, dry and wet. Dry months are from April to October while the wet time of year is from November to March.

You won’t just have natural beauty on a vacation in the islands, you’ll also find a few lessons in history. Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor in 1941, the first ever attack of the kind on American soil. This became the primary reason for the United States joining into the second World War. Pearl Harbor continues to be remembered vividly and you may see the actual place it all took place.

Popular towns in the islands, that are suggested to see, include Honolulu (which happens to be the capital), Waiakea, Haleiwa, Poipu, Hana, Captain Cook, Waipahu and Waialua. Every town boasts its own distinct contribution to a delightful family vacation experience.

The Hawaiian Islands offer several distinct ethnic groups that, through the years, have made Hawaii home. To name a few, Polynesian, Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Chinese, German, English, Irish, Portuguese, Italian, African, French, Mexican, Scottish and Puerto Rican. Each have produced their own mark.

This brief description just isn’t enough to do this visitor location justice. A visit would be necessary to actually appreciate Hawaii’s beauty and history – just ask anybody fortunate enough to have spent some time on one of the islands.
